Occupation: City Administrator
Marital Status: Widowed
From Busse: In 40 years a lot has happened. My story is mostly about my work and how I've continued to reinvent myself. After graduating from the UW as an urban planner, I moved to Vancouver, married an attorney and eventually served six years in the state legislature and four as a county commissioner. I decided to become a public policy mediator, and just after that, my husband died. That was just prior to our last reunion. In 1999 I was persuaded to move to Olympia to lobby for a small state agency. Eight days into the job, the Governor called (we had served together in the House) and asked me to be the Director of a new state agency he planned to create by splitting an existing one. After three years of a slow economy keeping the legislature from agreeing, he abandoned his plan and moved me from Community Development to the Personnel Appeals Board. When that stint ended last summer I fully intended to go back to consulting - but the head of the Association of Cities conned me into talking to the Mayor of the City of McCleary. Hired on the spot, for the past ten months I have been their City Administrator and love it! (McCleary is less than half an hour west of Olympia on the way to the beach. The population is 1,555 and is about to grow like crazy.)

From Cathy: I retired from teaching when my husband Jim became a director for a brokerage firm. We do major entertaining, travel and we move. (4 times in the last 10 years) We even lived in Yakima for two years and enjoyed family, friends and golfing at YCC. Now we are back in Tri-Cities and spend long weekends at our lake house near Spokane. We currently live right inside a private golf course and our golden retriever, Marshal Dillon enjoys finding golf balls. Life is wonderful! We have been involved in church activities and several charities. All three of our children have graduated from college. Our oldest son Jamie and his wife Angie have blessed us with 3 grandchildren, Maddy, TJ & Grant. We also attend many sports events since my husband has season tickets to the Seahawks, Mariners and Cougars. This will be the first Ike Reunion that we will miss.

From Marty: A big thank you to all the of the Reunion Committee! I look forward to seeing old friends. Linda (Class of 68) and I have been happily married for 35 years and have three children. Our oldest, Ryan is now 30 and an attorney living in San Francisco and doing great. Sara, age 26, is living her dream as a vet tech and Director of an animal shelter & sanctuary she founded in Jefferson County. (Second Chance Ranch of Jefferson County.) She talked her parents into acquiring a 32 acre parcel with an old building and we have been converting the site into an animal shelter. This has become one of my hobby projects: permitting, design and construction/etc. About three years ago Linda and I decided our empty house, dog and cats needed needed an additional child so we became licensed foster parents with the intent to adopt a boy. Three years ago Joey entered our lives as an 11 year old, Now 14 he has definately filled our household. Joey is going into 9th grade and is very smart, fun, handsome and already taller than me. Professionally, after graduating from the U of W in Civil Engineering and taking post graduate studies in "Water & AIr Resource Division", I worked for about 20 years as a consulting engineer in a firm in the Seattle area. For my last 4-5 years there I was the President & CEO of the Company. In 1992, I decided to start my own Engineering Company and founded a Company called (what else) Penhallegon Associates Consulting Engineers. We are celebrating our 15th year in business and the Company is now know as PACE Engineers. We have been named 5 years in a row as one of the 100 Fastest Growing & Most Successful private Companies in the State (as named by the Puget Sound Business Journal). We have Offices in Kirkland, Seattle and the Portland area with 120 employees. I still work typically 50+ hours per week. I have an incredible staff and loyal client which make my work very fun and rewarding.

# Grand Children: Linnea - one year
From Jeff: We've just relocated to ChicagoLand after being away for fifteen years. After twenty five years as a General Manager in the business of brand extension (business meeting production and mobile/event marketing), I am at one of those unanticiapted junctures where I am sorting out where I go from here (Those pesky non-compete/non-solicitation agreements.). My daughter, Jennifer, made me a proud grandfather fifteen months ago (Linnea) and received her Sc.D. from Harvard this past June in Epidemiology. Our boy, Ryan, is a Sophomore at Michigan and a member of the Michaigan Swim Team. Go Blue! It was great that I already know Michigan's fight song. I had to update the NOW photo. It was taken in Grant Park the night of Barack's acceptance speech, where I stood a mere thirty yards from the podium. Quite an evening!

From Ed: Better late than never.... sure would like to have been able to come to the reunion!
Life has certainly been “a box of chocolates” the past 40 years since graduation. An exciting and challenging journey that has taken me from "the Valley", to the far corners of the world and six of the seven continents numerous times.
Having dropped out of WSU at the end of my junior year to go into the restaurant business, marry young, and lose my student deferment; like many during that era, I ended up being "called". Rather than heading for the Army for 2 years, I chose the Air Force for 4 which became 20 largely because I was able to spend nine of them on the tiny island of Okinawa, Japan where I literally fell off the boat and have been scuba diving ever since.
A beautiful daughter and a couple of years after arriving, a second set of life changing events brought new challenges – divorce and single parenting. But with one door opening, several opened, the most important was a blind date with a great looking and fun loving tourist from South Carolina. Gail has been a perfect mate for 29 wonderful years. With a whole new perspective on life, it didn't take long to submerge my land-based passion, photography, into the depths of some of the world’s most beautiful reefs. It also didn't take long to realize that becoming an instructor was the only way to afford our “habit”. After certifying several hundred beginning students, a couple dozen instructors, a couple thousand dives, a few boats, clubs, TV appearances and diving ventures, I ended up back in the heartland of the US near St Louis still in the Air Force, but dry docked, or so they thought! Shortly after arriving there, our daughter, Lindsey came into the world and, 9 years later, finally armed with a new degree in Education, I “retired”, or rather, changed careers. No, I didn’t become a teacher, but used the degree to get a senior management position with GTE and opened up an office close to our home to continue supporting the local Air Force command and control mission I was involved with before retiring. A few years later I moved on to Unisys to build a global team that expanded that work outside the local base.
Along came 9/11 and the third set of life changing events occurred when I quickly became involved in Homeland Security, developing identification, surveillance, tracking, and border control solutions for the US and several other governments in my role with Unisys. Today, I travel extensively speaking at various international conferences and consulting with senior government and industry officials globally on ways to protect their citizens, employees, and resources while increasing safety and quality of life. Recently, I have even been able to be part of real CSI teams that have lead to a few arrests using some of the latest technologies in the world while helping develop new ones. And the diving…every chance I get wherever life takes me.
With all the travel, I have to give Gail nearly all the credit for raising our two daughters. A stay-at-home-and-take-care-of-nearly-everything mom, she was always there for all three of us “kids” Misti, now 35, gave us two grandsons, ages 6 and 9 and runs a successful nursery and landscaping business from her home in Louisiana. Lindsey, now 21, finishes up her degree in Elementary Education at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville next May and is looking forward to teaching 1st grade, a goal she has not wavered from since she was in the 2nd grade herself. As for Gail and me, we’re looking forward to spending more time together with the kids, watching the sun rise and set with the tide at a beach somewhere while sampling a few more pieces of chocolate. Sorry I wasn’t able to attend the reunion, but thought I would add a bit to the Class of ’67 legacy. My best to all. I WILL see you in ’17.
