From Gail: After finishing at UW, I married Jim Davis (Ike '66) two weeks before he started law school at U. of Idaho. We returned to Yakima where he practices law. Most recently, I have been managing our 80-acre cherry orchard, sold it in December '07, and am about to purchase two new orchards closer to home. We have a daughter, Jennifer (32), who married Matt Martinkus (son of Stan, Ike '66), after receiving her master's degree from UW. They live in Yakima with our two grandsons. Jennifer is a food writer for such magazines as Cooking Light, Food & Wine, Fine Cooking, Coastal Living. Our son, Derrin (30), is a chef in Austin, Texas, where he has our two little granddaughters. He earned his Bachelor of Science from Johnson & Wales in Providence, RI, in food service management and occasionally collaborates with his sister on the magazine articles. He is currently designing a large restaurant on the Dell (computers) corporate campus in Austin.

From Suzanne: It’s been 10 amazing years since our last reunion. I moved to Seattle from Yakima about that time. After that, I started working for Holland America Line and have been a non-stop traveler ever since. About five years ago, a wonderful gentleman, Vic, came dancing into my life. And ever since, we have had a fantastic time exploring the world together. From the exquisite beaches in Tahiti, to the historical cities in Europe, the Caribbean and even to Iceland. We’ve enjoyed taking our many cruises onboard Holland America and Windstar cruise ships.
Chuck my ex-husband (we divorced in 1988 after 20 years of marriage) passed away in December 2001 of heart problems. Our oldest daughter Stephanie, age 38, is a fifth grade teacher on Mercer Island and she and her husband have 2 active boys, Kaleb 7 and Jakob 4. Lisa our youngest age 31 works for Chapter 13 in Tacoma and has a lovely daughter, Keiley Jo age 8. I am fortunate to have them live close by and am able to spend much quality time watching them grow. Last, but not least, I am proud to be a 10-year Breast Cancer survivor

From Dick: Hi everyone: I've just completed my 26th year working for the State of Washington in the field of Developmental Disabilities. (Only 4 to go, but who's counting?) My career in social services started in 1971 as a VISTA volunteer in Arizona. I spent ten years there mostly as a vocational rehabilitation counselor. In 1981 I returned to Washington working in Walla Walla and then in Yakima with a private rehabilitation company. I accepted my current position June 1983. I live in West Seattle, but take a nice ferry ride to Bremerton for work. Although I have no children I do have a niece and nephew that I love dearly. I still really enjoy sports and look forward to when I can play golf every day.

From Linda: It seems like time has flown by! It is hard to believe it has been 40 years since high school! Al and I celebrated our 37th anniversary this spring. We have been blessed with 3 children; our oldest, Jeff and his wife live in Lowell, MA. Beth, our daughter, and her family, live in Richland, and Ryan, our youngest, lives in Seattle with his wife. We have two grandchildren, Jessica, 9, and Noah, 7. Fortunately, they live in Richland. We lived in Richland for 30 years, and then last October we moved to England. For the time being we are living just south of Manchester. Al's job brought him here, and we figured it was a chance of a lifetime to spend time here. We are thoroughly enjoying it. Before we left the US, I had been working in the elementary schools for 14 years as a Para professional helping to teach English as a Second Language. I loved the time with the kids and really miss it now. I also co-ordinated a Women's Bible Study in our church. Moving to England has made me realize how precious friendships are, and how easy it is to take them for granted. -- Never again! It has been a shock to be at home without a car, job, or friends, but little by little, I am making new friends and seeing God's hand in it all. Life has been good to our family ~~ full of ups and downs, but mostly ups. Sorry I won't be able to make the reunion, but I will be thinking of you all. Have a great time.

Marital Status: Committed Relationship

From Rick: I'm looking forward to the 40th reunion of the
Ike class of 1967.
I continue to work as an owner/broker of a franchise of John L.Scott Real Estate, which I purchased in 1999. My 24 year old daughter graduated from the University of Oregon and is now teaching in the educational battlefield of east Oakland as a part of Teach for America. This is a very challenging commitment which thankfully ends in 2010. My 21 year old son has started a house and pet sitting business and has been staying quite busy this summer (509-969-9966 in case you need him). The biggest change has been the loss of my wife Sandi to cancer in 2002. Fortunately a couple of years ago I met a lady who graduated from West Valley HS in 1967. Gay Scott has been my constant companion and ballroom dance partner. We will marry in June of 2010.
I still like to ski, sing , play in my yard and work in the real estate business. I wish I had more time to hike, golf and travel. Retirement is not something I'm thinking about yet.

From Dianne: It doesn’t seem possible we had a 40-year reunion! Does that mean we’re forty years older too?
During our senior year at high school, my mother died and my family moved to Olympia, so I lost contact with most high school friends, except Prudy (Young) Mook, who now lives in California. I graduated from UW with a degree in elementary education/anthropology at the time Boeing was crashing. I met my husband Gil Fierro while I was living in Seattle, and we moved to his state, New Mexico, to look for jobs. It’s a great state of enchanting landscapes, huge blue skies, and a grand mixture of cultures. Thirty-six years later, I’m still living in New Mexico and now feel like a native. Yes, I can eat chile with the best of them! I’ve taken only one trip back to Yakima when my kids were in the early elementary grades to show them where I grew up.
Our son Miguel is almost 30 now, working at a telecommunications company and studying computer animation. He keeps me straight when my computer turns contrary. Our daughter Katrina is 26 and married to a wonderful young man David. I have one grandchild Chris, who is 6, with another one due in March. I am fortunate to have my kids and grandson living with me in Albuquerque. Chris and I are joined at the hip and spend many weekends exploring the world together. I’ve spent time teaching Sunday School, leading Girl and Boy Scout troops, and volunteering as a docent for our zoo.
I never did get a job working as an elementary teacher since the NM school populations were in a decline after graduation. I worked as a welfare caseworker and then spent twenty years as a public relations officer for Army recruiting. Ten years ago I got a job following a new direction in education, working as an adult training manager for several Defense agencies. Last February I retired from Federal service after 32 years of working. I’ve spent these first few months remodeling my house and making new retired friends. I’ve already taken the Alaskan cruise that so many Ike cadets mentioned in their updates, so this week I’m taking off for a trip to Peru to see Lima and Machu Picchu while my joints can still take the exercise.
I like what Tom Bjorgen said: “Every ten years the gravity of friendship and memories pulls many of us back together, and we get a view of how the future is playing out for those fresh yearbook faces. We stop the show for an evening and catch up.” For a Norwegian (I was a Swede in a nearby seat), he knows how to say it well. I hope to join you at your next reunion event.
